Apple è per il terzo anno consecutivo al primo posto tra le aziende della rivista Fortune, che la considera «la più ammirata al mondo» .

Tra le aziende italiane quella con la miglior reputazione è la Edison, con un punteggio di 6,96 che conferma la posizione per il secondo anno consecutivo.

Nella classifica delle ’World’s Most Admired Companies’ di 346 aziende globali, la società di Cupertino è seguita da un altro gigante tecnologico, Google, mentre al terzo è la Berkshire Hathaway, la società di investimenti di Warren Buffett.

Microsoft per la prima volta esce dalla top ten, passando dalla decima all’undicesima posizione.

Anche per Layla Pavone (Presidente Iab Italia) l’iPad rappresenta la nuova sfida per gli editori. Stefano sottolinea l’uso di DRM e TPM proprietarie (chiamando DRM “Digital Restrictions Management”) nel nuovo aggeggino della Apple. Qui la protesta della Free Software Foundation. Protestors: iPad is nothing more than a golden calf of DRM. Mentre qui si sottolinea che The iPad iBooks App uses free, open-source ePub format.

Lui linka i dubbi di Tedeschini Lalli a proposito dell’impatto dell’iPad sui quotidiani e le 11 ragioni a favore di iPad. Secondo il prof. Fuggetta, “they are missing the point”:

Ma il vero punto è che iPad NON è un notebook. È inutile confrontarlo con le prestazione di un notebook. Ma è anche meglio per quello che deve fare di un netbook. Il vero punto è che definisce un profilo di uso diverso e il vero competitor è Kindle. Io già oggi ho in borsa il MacBook e Kindle. Sono oggetti diversi per usi diversi. Ma se confronto prezzo, prestazioni, esperienza d’uso e flessibilità, il Kindle non mi pare abbia speranze. Per di più Apple ha scelto EPUB come formato.

È su questo che si gioca la battaglia, non sul fatto che l’iPad sia o meno equivalente ad un notebook.

Bello è bello, come al solito. E’ il nuovo Magic Mouse della Apple. Dopo l’iPhone, l’iPod touch e il MacBook Pro, la tecnologia multi-touch integra adesso il rivoluzionario mouse che manda in cantina il precedente Mighty Mouse. Basta pulsanti, rotelle e altre palline. L’intero mouse diventa un pulsante: fai clic e doppio clic dove ti pare. Guarda qui come funziona: il video.

Insomma, anche questa volta Apple lancia un oggetto che prova a riscrivere il modo in cui siamo abituati ad utilizzarlo. Lo ha lanciato ieri insieme all’attesa nuova linea di Mac, che tutti (compresa io) erano ansiosi di vedere. Ha aggiornato la sua linea con l’introduzione dei nuovi iMac a 21″ e a 27″ full HD, un Mac Mini con processore e memoria più potenti e una nuova linea di MacBook.

Apple Tablet May Launch in September

Rumors of an Apple tablet – essentially a large iPhone or iPod touch – have been swirling for over a year. Today the Financial Times is adding credibility to the rumors, reporting that Apple is rushing to debut the device in time for the Christmas shopping season.

The article swings back and forth between the new device and a series of record label deals Apple could launch simultaneously, but here are the points specifically related to the tablet:

Screen size: “may be up to 10 inches diagonally”, touch sensitive (of course)

Phone capability? Unlikely – it’s more like a large iPod Touch than an iPhone.

Wireless connectivity: Same as the iPod Touch, with the ability to download media through iTunes.

Kindle Rival? May provide the ability to read books, creating a rival to Amazon’s Kindle.

Launch date: By Christmas, possibly as early as September.

Jobs Had Liver Transplant. Apple Chief on Track to Return to Work at End of June.

Steve Jobs, who has been on medical leave from Apple Inc. since January to treat an undisclosed medical condition, received a liver transplant in Tennessee about two months ago. The chief executive has been recovering well and is expected to return to work on schedule later this month, though he may work part-time initially.

Mr. Jobs didn’t respond to an email requesting comment. “Steve continues to look forward to returning at the end of June, and there’s nothing further to say,” said Apple spokeswoman Katie Cotton.

To jailbreak or not to jailbreak the iPhone.

That was the heated topic of discussion late Friday between Apple’s iPhone marketing czar Greg Joswiak, Fred von Lohmann, the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s copyright genius, Copyright Office officials including registrar Marybeth Peters, the record labels, movie studios and software industry.

Apple vigorously opposed authorizing jailbreaking, saying copyright protections is what gave birth to the iPhone, the 1 billion app sales, 50,000 app developers and 35,000 apps. The EFF vigorously urged the Copyright Office to authorize jailbreaking, which in this case is hacking the phone’s OS, and hence allowing consumers to run any app on the phone they want, including those not authorized by Apple.

“It is my automobile at the end of the day,” von Lohmann said, a reference that iPhone users should be allowed to do what they want with their phones, just like car owners do.
